Angel Mikel              The Music is all around us

In a small town in North America, is a story of two boys who lived in an abandoned house with no parents. These two homeless boys were not brothers and had found each other on the streets. But here in this abandoned house, they lived like brothers and struggled together to survive. The people in the little town were kind, and often brought food and clothes to help. But like every other orphan child, these two boys had one dream, and one dream only – to have a home with parents and possibly brothers and sisters.

One day in April, the two boys received news that one of the boys’ parents had been found. A father and a mother, who had promised to come and get their son. On the night before they were to arrive, the two boys slept on the floor and held each other in tears.

“I will miss you Jack,” one boy said with a sniff.

“I will miss you Tom,” the other boy replied. “But no matter how far I go, I will never forget you. We will always be brothers.”

The abandoned house did not have a ceiling and moonlight sipped in through the holes on the roof.

Jack’s parents were coming in the morning to get him, and even though he was overjoyed at the prospect, the thought of leaving Tom behind broke his heart.

“What will happen to me?” Tom said as he cried. “The people of this town are very nice. But they never really talk to me. They never really see me. You are the only family I have.”

At these words, the two boys held each other tight and cried some more.

“You must keep your ears open,” Jack said. “The music is all around us. It’s in the air we breathe, the flowers in the wind and in the voices of the people. The music will lead you home.”

Many hours later, they fell asleep in each other’s arms, with streaks of tears on their cheeks.

Angel Mikel, Angel Sonia and Angel Nathan said goodbye to Angel Musa around midday. Angel Mikel felt like he didn’t want to leave Africa but his training demanded that he follow Angel Nathan.

“One day we will return to Africa,” Angel Sonia said, as she caught the look on Angel Mikel’s face. She tried for a smile and Angel Mikel smiled back.

The three angels flew hard across the Atlantic Ocean headed for North America. Halfway through the journey, a storm rose above the ocean, dropping heavy rain and lightning. Their wings became heavy and the two young angels struggled to keep up. Angel Nathan spread his huge wings above the young angels and protected them as best as he could from the lightning. Soon a light appeared ahead and they burst with relief into clear blue skies.

In America, Angel Nathan glided down a rocky hill and landed on top of a hill. The two young angels landed beside him and gasped for breath. There was nothing out here but dry land and trees.

“This is the place,” Angel Nathan said. “This is where it’s going to happen.”

“What’s going to happen?” Angel Mikel said.

“Shhhhh…” Angel Nathan pointed straight ahead.

Angel Mikel and Angel Sonia closed their eyes and listened. They heard the sound of an engine in the distance. But they also heard something else that made them open their eyes.

“That car will not go far,” Angel Sonia said.

“There’s something wrong with the engine.” Angel Mikel rose on small wings and looked at Angel Nathan. “Can we go and see?”

“Go ahead,” Angel Nathan said. “I will wait here.”

Angel Mikel and Angel Sonia shot forward with the eagerness of youth. They rounded a hill and saw an old Toyota car coming down the hill. The car was moving too fast and seemed to swerve every few seconds. Angel Mikel narrowed his eyes and scanned the area.

“There are no demons around here,” Angel Sonia said. “This is very strange.”

They reached the white car and followed it down the hill. Inside was a middle aged couple who looked to be in panic. The man behind the wheel seemed to have lost control of the car. But every time the car swerved, the two young angels pushed it back on the road and kept the people safe.

“I see it,” Angel Mikel finally said. “There’s a red sword in the engine compartment.”

While Angel Mikel steadied the car, Angel Sonia dashed forward and pulled a red sword from the engine compartment. The car sputtered with new life and the driver brought it under control.

“Who did this?” Angel Sonia said in an angry voice.

“There!” Angel Mikel pointed up the hill. “I see it!”

The two young angels looked up and saw a red creature slithering away. They saw the sharp tail and Sulphur breath. The creature had been there the whole time and somehow they had not seen it.

With the car safely on the road, Angel Nathan joined the two young angels and they all followed the car. “What did you learn today?” The big warrior looked at ease with the happenings.

“We never saw the demon,” Angel Mikel said.

“How come we didn’t see the demon?” Angel Sonia looked baffled.

Angel Nathan watched the car below for a second. It swerved no longer as they approached a small town. “The demons are always there. Remember this. They are always watching and waiting for a chance to strike. You must encourage the people to pray. You must never let your guard down.”

“Yes Angel Nathan.”

In front of an old abandoned building stood two boys. One boy carried a bag on his right shoulder while his left hand held the other boy’s hand. They watched the white Toyota approaching and tensed when it came to a stop. A middle aged woman jumped out, ran forward and wrapped her hands around Jack.

“Mum?” Jack said.

The woman pulled back and did not bother to wipe the tears streaming down her face. “Yes my son. I am your mother. You will come with me and I will take care of you.”

A door slammed shut and a hefty man with a beard stepped forward. “You must be Jack.” He extended a strong hand and the boy took it. “I am your father. We … your mother and I have been looking for you for many years. It’s time to come home son.”

Jack hugged his parents and cried. Yes. He could finally hear it. The couple looked warm and wonderful. This was where the music was playing. And then he remembered. “Mum? Dad? I want you to meet my friend Tom. Tom and I have been living on the streets together.”

The mother hesitated and froze, her eyes taking in the sight of Tom who wore ragged clothes. The man took a step forward and shook the little boy’s hand. “How do you do Tom?”

“I am fine thank you sir,” the little boy replied.

Up above, Angel Sonia flew low and whispered something into the woman’s ear. The woman’s eyes brightened and she looked determined. “Tom,” she said. “Why don’t you also come with us. We will take care of you and if we can’t we will find someone who can.”

The little boy’s eyes sparkled with delight. “Really?” And then he jumped after Jack into the backseat of the car.” The two boys hugged in delight.

Angel Mikel sat on a tree branch and watched the white car drive away. He smiled at Angel Sonia and shook his head. “I would really like to know what you told that woman.”

Angel Sonia laughed out loudly. “If you are nice, maybe one day I will tell you.”
